How Does Solar PV Work?
A solar photovoltaic (PV) panel is made up of several silicon cell wafers, connected to each other in series. When a photon of light from the sun makes contact with the silicon cell a photovoltaic effect occurs, generating electricity. The most efficient solar panels can convert more than 20% of sunlight into electricity.
The renewable energy generated by commercial solar panels is in DC 'direct current', whereas, the "mains" electricity we all use is AC - 'alternating current'. In order to utilise the electricity from the panels it must be converted from DC to AC. An additional device called an Inverter undertakes this role along with constantly monitoring the electricity coming in from the national grid, and then modifying the DC electricity generated by the solar panels to match it perfectly.
The electricity generated by the industrial solar panels is automatically used to supply a property with any excess being automatically sold straight back to the supplier or used to charge a Solar PV Battery.
Any shortfall of power, such as peak use times or at night, is topped up by the supplier or discharged from the solar battery storage system.
Solar PV operates on light intensity, not heat, so even if the day seems cold, if there is light, the system will be generating electricity, PV systems will therefore generate electricity all year round.

Over the course of a year, a commercial solar PV system will save you money by reducing your electricity bill.
Excess electricity is exported back to the grid earning an "Export" payment. This is calculated by your energy provider through a smart electricity meter. This payment is lower than the import electricity cost, it is therefore more advantageous to use as much of the "free" electricity as possible. This is where smart energy products and solar battery storage can make a difference to payback times.
Through the generation and storage of solar power the business will have a higher degree of energy independence, less reliance on the grid provides greater protection from price fluctuations and could even offer a degree of operational continuance in the event of grid outage.

Design and Installation Process
Establish Energy Usage - Ideally with copies your most recent electricity bills, and confirmation of the property in mind, we will analyse your information to determine the optimum size of system.
Initial Desktop Proposal - Once we have determined an ideal system size we will put a preliminary proposal together, including: Size and approximate layout of the system, Output, Utilisation of the solar power, Capital Cost, Payback/Return on investment.
Full Technical Survey - If the desktop proposal meets requirements, the next step is to fully assess the proposed location, visiting site to measure, analyse and record site specific information.
Formal Proposal - Similar to the preliminary version but will include confirmations on Structural suitability, planning permissions, network connection permission, Health and Safety, safe access and project design.
Project Delivery and Handover - We work closely with your teams to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum. Once the system has been successfully installed we will arrange a detailed handover with you to once again take you through the various procedures and monitoring features.
Asset Management - Most clients prefer their solar installations to integrate seamlessly into their operations without the need for additional management. We can offer tailored operations and maintenance packages to ensure ongoing system performance.
