Big news for Tesla Powerwall 2 owners!
As seen on the Tesla Australia website, an upcoming software update will enable backwards compatibility between the Powerwall 2 & 3.
While this is great news, we can’t be certain if or when it will come to the UK.
The update will mean that existing Powerwall 2 owners could soon expand their home energy ecosystem further and seamlessly integrate a Powerwall 3 with the option of Expansion Packs linked to the added Powerwall 3.

Tesla Electric Set to Launch in Great Britain
Get ready for a change in the UK energy market! Tesla is soon set to supply UK homes with electricity, after being given the green light to become an energy retailer in Great Britain.
This approval has come from OFGEM, the nation’s energy regulator, who have confirmed that Tesla Energy Ventures (TEVL) has now been approved, following a regulatory process that started in July of last year.
But what does this mean for you?
The arrival of Tesla as a new player in the UK energy market is expected to boost competition within the energy suppliers, which will most likely bring better tariffs and lower energy bills.
For homes that have already invested in existing Tesla tech, this could also bring more integrated home energy systems, increase their energy independence and lower their carbon footprint even further.
Plus, with Tesla’s Virtual Power Plant (VPP) program expanding, homeowners could even sell stored energy back to the grid, earning them potential monthly payments and help to stabilise the national electricity supply.
A spokesperson from the Tesla UK Energy Team has said: “We’re currently exploring how Tesla Electric can contribute towards innovation in the transition to sustainable energy, and our focus remains on providing value to customers. At this moment we have no further details to share on the product offering or timelines”.
